Escort Twin cam
Available from 1968 to 1971
This was the start of the roots of RS (Rallye Sport).
After the success of the Lotus Cortina, the end of the it's competitive life and the launch of a new car to replace the Anglia. The Escort Twin Cam was born.
Straight away the new Ford Escort was a winner. Once AVO (Advanced Vehicle Operation, Bagshot, Surrey) had fitted the hot Lotus engine to the Escort, Ford entered it's first event with the Escort. It took part in the new formula of motorsport, Rallycross and took part at an event at Croft (still used today), the Escort Twin Cam won 4 races out right.
Off road & on the track this was the car to beat. The twin cam took wins in countrys all over the globe, from the forest stages in the UK to the Safari rallys in Africa.
1st win : Circuit of Ireland 1968 (Roger Clark)
The final appearance of the twin cam was during 1971's safari rally.
